Pupils from Vrsar Elementary School visited the multimedia interpretation center MoreMore in Vrsar. During the visit, the students learned how dolphins live in the Adriatic Sea and how these mammals have adapted to life in the water. They learned what echolocation is, how and why dolphins use it, checked the shape of a dolphin's body and understood how that shape helps the dolphins to move through the water at high speed. After the introductory part, they met a dolphin on a large video screen that simulates the undersea, and then watched an educational film about the undersea, during which the narrator was Dolphin Orso, host of the multimedia center MoreMore. Through 3D fish models, they checked what they knew about the fish of the Adriatic, they recognized many spieces of fishes and they curiously investigated about others so to recognize them next time. At the end, the visitors tried their hand at the games "Swim like a fish" and "Catch a fish" and tried to virtually be the fastest swimmer in the dark of the underwater or catch the most prized fish from a virtual boat.
Dolphin Orsa is expecting the students from the first grade again when they are in second grade to check what they have learned about the sea and dolphins during the summer.
Before leaving, all students answered the question "Is a dolphin a fish?". What would you answer?
